Gaura’s also have a variety of other names like butterfly bush, bee blossoms, but all the same as beautiful as the first. This perennial bush grows 30-45cm in highs and width. Gaura’s has green compact foliage and has and upright airy and wistful pink of white flowers.

Gaura’s enjoy the full sun and although they can handle poor soils they do best in compost rich soils. They are draught tolerant once established but when you plant them water them well. As always remember that plants need food and water so fertilizer well as instructed by your choice of product.

Gaura’s has a fun and joyful appearance and it is a great showcase plant either in large containers or in the garden bosting there white or pink butterfly flowers. They look beautiful planted in masses as a filer to resemble meadows. They tend to take over the space they are planted so make sure you don’t plant to close together. Gaura’s do stand firm on their own and needs enough space to put out in its full glory. Gaura’s bring lightness and beauty to any landscape.

Butterfly bushes grow well in sun areas, and they are hardy once established and will come back season after season if damaged in winter. They grow well in the Free State, and they are frost hardy. If kept on the drier side and planted in well-draining soil they do not suffer from pests or diseases.

Gaura’s are excellent as cut flowers and fillers in flower arrangements and hold well when cut and placed in vases around the house.

All around one of my favourites. Below I have added a few photos from our garden.
